a Global Development Partnership Mitigating Environmental Refuge
If you have been impressed with the urgency of doing, knowing is no longer enough. If you believe we must apply our knowledge to enhance the potential of our field, being willing is not enough. I believe we must share our strongest tool with others, and do.
Take Action!
During the past three decades, natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, droughts, tropical storms and tsunamis have increased in level of incidence and magnitude.
These hazards are causing major loss of human life, natural habitat and livelihood frameworks, destruction of economic and social infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
Natural disasters amplify man-made hazards as epitomized by the high level of human, natural and financial asset loss we face due to lack of global collaboration and preparedness. Economic losses further expose flaws in current methods of collaboration, which lead to a lesser level of preparedness in under-represented areas and can ultimately lead to extreme poverty.
In order to mitigate extreme poverty and loss of livelihood frameworks it is necessary to make the current global collaboration and natural disaster preparedness more resistant to external forces.
